Do you have a goal for your website in mind?   Yes, we know you want to attract lot's of customers and yes, we know, you want to make a lot of money.  But how?   How do you attract those customers and get them to buy?

It has become increasingly clear that the ones who are success with great website designs (both graphically and in regards to content) have a unique value proposition and have a specific target audience in mind.   By being unique, fresh and clear on their message they quickly rise to the top of that ever valuable Google search.

So what is your goal?

Some years ago I came across an interesting story... although I cannot recollect where.  If I could I should cite the author here as it is not my original story.

In the infinite supply of expertise on the web, it would not make any sense to just take advice from one organisation about how to do things.

Before you embark on getting your business online, talk to some similar businesses in your area and find out how they do it.   Google for local experts in web design, like us, they will have many tips and hints on their website and in their marketing material about how to build a fantastic and profitable website.   We personally love Ben Hunt's advice over at http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/articles-and-tutorials/.

Personally, I strongly advise to sticking with the basics.   Your goal has to be how to I clearly articulate what I am offering and how can I quickly get that message across.

As promised, a daily post.   This is day two.  How long can I keep it up?

So @ Feet Up Online we have started a new direction and a new mission.  We can't be everything to everyone so after much soul searching, in attempt to find that balance between work and life, our new mission is purely and simply to help others get online.

We have steadily been building our network of contacts and can now call on many organisations to assist our customer with designs, search engine optimisation and even just how to get started online.

We have had some extremely successfull sites for our customers including XtraLength (http://www.xtralength.com.au) and Little Aid (http://www.littleaid.com.au).    But where we continue to help customers the most is in that day to day management of their online business.

So often, in so many professions, you spend all your time working for someone else and never getting anything of your own done.   Like the saying in Australia "A builders house" or "A mechanics car", they are almost always never finished.

Our wesbite is exactly the same.   We spend our time working on sites for other people, so our own site just gets left to sit and rot.

This time I am going to take a different track.  My comittment is to one post per day on the blog.   Get some content in here and then focus on the layout.
